Life Cycle is the fruition of drummer Whit Dickey's new deeply cohesive group concept, and it is something altogether NEW again. If you have been paying attention to what has been happening in improvised music for the past half decade, you have heard music from all of these players. It is guaranteed that you haven't heard anything quite like this before. Transonic (AUM005), by the Whit Dickey Trio, was released on AUM Fidelity in 1998. With Life Cycle, "The Prophet" returns to AUM with a tremendous new ensemble and an exquisite sound cycle. His abiding interest in the ancient essence of life which breathes freely in wide-open spaces uncluttered by static is here reflected. Life Cycle features the stellar talents of long-time associates in this particular collective configuration for the first time. Given the players involved, that alone is reason enough for you to listen, and listen deeply. Plus, there ain't a damn thing out there like this. -SJ
